Introduction

I just want to introduce myself to the group.  I live near Stuttgart (already see there is someone else close to me).  I started cooking in dutch ovens shortly before we started trail riding almost 20 years ago.  I find that it is a good way to have wonderful camp food.  I guess I am like a lot of folks in that I have quite a bit of cast iron.  It just calls my name and follows me home.  Right now I am recovering from recent surgery on my arm after the break didn't heal last year when I fell off my horse.  I can't ride now, but I can cook with some assistance with two handed chores from my hubby.

Looking forward to talking to you guys.

Re: Introduction

Glad to have you onboard.  My wife and I  trail ride most every weekend in the summer ourselves.  I also find that I don't bounce as well as I did in my younger days.  I don't know what it is about cast iron.  It is the only type of cooking equipment that can talk.  How it knows what my name is , I'll never know but I can just walk by and it will call out "Doug , take me home"  My collection is now up to 48 pieces of iron with 18 being Dutch ovens.

I cooked a stuffed pork loin and my Redneck Finger Cake this past weekend for my wifes family reunion.  I got the usual " you cooked that with coals and not in the Oven?  Bottom line was when the lunch was over , all I had to do was take a paper towel to the pots to clean them because they were empty.  It was at a deer camp and they had a 16" dutch oven in their ckitchen that had the flanged lid but no legs that I could not talk them out of.  Did I need it? no Did I want it ? yes Oh well theres next year.

Doug

Re: Introduction

Ah, what you need is a nice gaited horse for no bounce.  Once you hit the magic age of forty, the old body doesn't do as well with the trot.   Our favorite place to go is Lonesome D Horse Camp at New Blaine.  The scenery is outstanding.  I am wondering if our paths ever cross.
