New Dutch Oven Cooker

Hello Dutch Oven Folks,

I am from Dyersburg Tn and have been cooking with dutch ovens for about 4 or 5 months. I love it. My sister lives in Cherokee Village Ark, and I was wanting to attend the Mammoth Spring cook off but I did not get to make it. I am in the process of trying to put together a DO group over here in Western Tennessee. I have about five others besides myself that is just getting started cooking. When is the next cook off event that would be close to the Hardy/Cherokee Village area? I have family that live in Hardy as well. I also was wondering how the Mammoth Springs event went over. I would like to have an event around here but we haven't got that far in our orgainzation as of yet. I backed out of the event in Mammoth Springs because I did not know exactly how everyone used the booth space, do they decorate or is it just tents? Any information you can give me please feel free to offer. Also I would love to have your group over to help us get established and give us rookies some helpful hints. My e-mail address in case you want to respond is ea7734gle@cableone.net.

Re: New Dutch Oven Cooker

Glad to have you check us out.  They had a great group of 8 teams  at the cookoff in Mammonth Springs.  I hope to get the winners posted soon.A cookoff is set for Fayetteville on April 19th (Doris at 479-824-3924for info)  The next event up that way is at Bull Shoals State Park on May 17th.  Call Randy at 870-445-3629 for info.  Most cookoffs allow for at least at 10x10 space to set up and if space is not a problem  using more is not a problem, but 10x10 should be the mimminum. My group ususally uses a 10x20 tent to set up with if we can,...takes a lot of space to act as crazy as we do!  Some cookoffs encourage period dress and decorations, I myself don't see this as a requirement to Black pot cook.  the cookoffs are intended to promote the use of The Art of Dutch oven cooking...... not old timey dress.  That's why The Redneck Gourmets show up in shorts and t-shirts if it is hot. I don't think our atire has effected our cooking yet.

There used to be someplace north of Memphis that hosted a "Goat Festival" that had Dutch oven cooking contest as well.  Don't know if they still do or not,  Anybody know?

Doug ....the Redneck Gourmet
