Intense Concentration at the Elk Festival Cook-OffHot Coals, from Louisanna ,Bill Ryan and Jeff Jimes (More pictures and results on Cook-Off Results page) Thank you for stopping by the Arkansas Dutch Oven Society website. The Arkansas Dutch Oven Society charter states that our purpose is to further the knowledge and heritage of Dutch oven cooking. We do this by Dutch Oven Gatherings (DOGS), historic reenactments, and demonstrations. We encourage you to join our group and take part in our activities and forum discussions. It is our goal to promote the art of Dutch oven cooking in Arkansas and beyond. If you know of any events in which Dutch oven cooking is featured, please let us know so that we can post it to the site and help get the word out about it. It does not have to be a "cook-off", just anything connected with the "black pots." Arkansas Dutch Oven Society has members all across the state of Arkansas and many of the surrounding states that are always looking for a DOG (Dutch Oven Gathering).

  Arkdos President Doug Thornton
AND THE WINNER IS………………
Well, it is time to announce the winner of our first recipe contest, Dessert. First announce who was our first judge, Toni Black. Toni is a mother of 7 children and the Arthur of the blog spot, Dutch Oven Madness. She undertook the chore of committing to cook in a Dutch oven every day for a year and also write about it. She tries a new recipe every day, photographs the results, and then gives herself and the dish a grade. I look forward to her post everyday just to see what she cooked last night for supper and how it turned out. I encourage you to follow her as she goes about the rest of the year cooking in a black pot every day.
Now the winner: Pinwheel Fruit Cobbler with Caramel Sauce submitted by The Old-timers, Mr. Leon and Ms. Jimma Hampton. Many of you know Mr. Leon and Ms. Jimma and know what good cooks they are, oh he will tell you she is the cook and he just does what she tells him but they make a great team.
Now on to Contest main Dish. I am sending all of the submitted recipes off to another Dutch oven Chef out of state for judging and will let you know the winner by the end of the month. This month’s contest is for yeast bread so send those recipes in.
I went to the cook-off at the Elk festival last week and had a wonderful but hot time. We have some great people in our Dutch oven world. If you have not got your ovens out yet, it’s time.
Keep your coals burning! Doug
